Holly Hunter, an American film and actress, is known for her acclaimed performance in films such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards for her work, including an Oscar. The successful actress began her career in acting in the theatre through a variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway projects. Acting has always been her passion. In fifth grade, she played Helen Keller in an original show. The actress was deaf in one ear after suffering from the mumps virus, however she did not permit this to deter her desire to be an actor. While in college, she took classes in theatre as well as later moving from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to New York City in pursuit of her dreams. Hunter was stuck in the elevator of the playwright Beth Henley when she met her. They collaborated to create Broadway Crimes of the Heart which marked Hunter's Broadway debut. Her first role in film came following her move from Los Angeles. Her work spans over thirty years and she's appeared in many TV movies or series, as well as films. Holly Hunter is a Hollywood Walk of Fame star as well as a winner of the Women in Film Lucy Award.
